THE LORD’S SERVANT

Moses stands alone. He is unparalleled. Like no other, “the Lord would speak with Moses face to face, just as a man speaks with his friend” (Exodus 33:11).

The Inspired Word says, “No prophet has arisen again in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. He was unparalleled for all the signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do against the land of Egypt—to Pharaoh, to all his officials, and to all his land—and for all the mighty acts” (Deuteronomy 34:10-12). Astonishingly, the Bible also declares, “Moses was a very humble man, more so than anyone on the face of the earth” (Numbers 12:3).

Moses wasn’t perfect but his faith was unshakable, his strength of character was unequalled, and his obedience was unwavering.

The one-hundred-twenty-year-old saint’s final act of obedience was to ascend Mt. Nebo to die alone. Without fanfare or flourish, Moses was buried “and no one to this day knows where his grave is” (Deuteronomy 34:6).

But, suppose we could erect a monument, a grave-marker. What might be a fitting epithet? What fitting phrase might be etched into his headstone?

Lawgiver. Great and powerful leader. Miracle worker. Maybe…

But I think I know… Chiseled into granite, we might read the simple but appropriate words: “Moses … the Lord’s Servant” (Deuteronomy 34:5; Joshua 1:1).

What will be etched into your memorial marker? “The Lord’s Servant”?

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
