SEALED, SAFE, AND SECURE

“In him you also were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed. The Holy Spirit is the down payment of our inheritance…” (Ephesians 1:13–14, CSB)

The New English Translation says it this way: “When you heard the word of truth (the gospel of your salvation)—when you believed in Christ—you were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit, who is the down payment of our inheritance…” (Ephesians 1:13–14, NET).

The English Standard Version renders it like this: “In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance…”(Ephesians 1:13–14, ESV).

When you were saved, you were given the indwelling Holy Spirit. He’s the absolute guarantee of your conversion and your eternal security. Our Resurrected Redeemer “has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee” (2 Corinthians 1:22, ESV).

This promise is clear. If you’re saved by grace through faith, then you will always be saved! With Paul, we can be certain! “I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38–39).

Jesus didn’t leave any room for misunderstanding. “My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand” (John 10:27–29).

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
