Christmas is the celebration of God’s arrival into His physical creation. Jesus, the sinless Son of God, “became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). The God of Heaven came near!

At the first Christmas, the God’s angels didn’t command the shepherds to leave their sheep on the hillside. The shepherds were invited. Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord… You will find a baby wrapped tightly in cloth and lying in a manger” (Luke 2:11–12). The shepherds came to Jesus willingly.

Likewise, God revealed Himself to the Magi in the east. The mysterious star beamed bright, inviting the magi to seek the King. They came willingly.

Jesus didn’t demand the attention of the busy multitudes in Bethlehem, nor did He later demand the crowds in Jerusalem or Galilee to bow in worship. He invited them but didn’t demand their attention or allegiance.

He continues to offer an invitation. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me”

(Revelation 3:20, NKJV).

Christmas is an invitation. Jesus doesn’t barge into our lives but politely knocks offering an opportunity to come close to the glorious and good God who offers eternal peace.

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,

O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem!

Come, and behold Him, born the King of angels!

O come, let us adore Him;

O come, let us adore Him;

O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!

Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning;

Jesus, to Thee be all glory giv'n!

Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing!

O come, let us adore Him;

O come, let us adore Him;

O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!

Merry Christmas!

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
