“Now Elijah the Tishbite, from the Gilead settlers, said to Ahab, ‘As the Lord God of Israel lives, in whose presence I stand, there will be no dew or rain during these years except by my command!’ ” (1 Kings 17:1).
Elijah, unknown until these verses, believed God’s Holy Word! Elijah had read and was convicted by these words: “Be careful that you are not enticed to turn aside, serve, and bow in worship to other gods. Then the Lord’s anger will burn against you. He will shut the sky, and there will be no rain; the land will not yield its produce, and you will perish quickly from the good land the Lord is giving you” (Deuteronomy 11:16–17).
God said it, so Elijah believed it!
Standing in wicked King Ahab’s court, Elijah boldly proclaimed God’s truth. Ahab was guilty of doing exactly what God prohibited. “Ahab also made an Asherah pole. Ahab did more to anger the Lord God of Israel than all the kings of Israel who were before him” (1 Kings 16:33).
Elijah, a nobody from nowhere, appeared in the King’s chambers with incredible boldness! How did he summon such bravery and boldness? Read his proclamation again. “As the Lord God of Israel lives, in whose presence I stand, there will be no dew or rain…”
“If God is for us, who is against us?” (Romans 8:31). If we stand in the Lord’s presence, and proclaim the Lord’s truth, why should we fear the fiercest enemy?
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
