JOSHUA’S PRAYER

“Sun, stand still!” (Joshua 10:12).
Can you imagine a more bold, brave, audacious prayer?
The Hebrews had witnessed the mighty hand of God. The rushing Jordan River had become a dried-up super-expressway. The towering walls of Jericho had crumbled. Even Ai had been defeated. Now five nations of Amorites from the Canaanite hill country had made an alliance to resist the intruding Israelites.
With swords slashing and spears flying, the fierce battle raged on. Joshua must have felt sure that a final victory was close at hand. If only there were a few more hours of daylight!
Joshua pleaded with God! “Oh, Lord God! You yourself made the heavens and earth by your great power and with your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for you!” (Jeremiah 32:17). “Sun, stand still!”
“So the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed its setting almost a full day” (Joshua 10:13). The solar system stopped because Joshua prayed.
What’s bothering you? What are you worried about? Are you fighting a battle? Are the odds stacked against you? Does victory seem impossible?
Have you asked God to come to your aid? Have you asked Him to lift a burden, to fix what is broken, to provide what is desperately needed?
Have you asked God to do what only God could do? “Sun, stand still!”
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
