When the angels in Heaven gather around the throne of the Glorious One, they sing in spine-tingling harmony, “Holy, holy, holy!” (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8).

They don’t sing “almighty, almighty, almighty” or “omniscient, omniscient, omniscient” or “all-knowing, all-knowing, all-knowing” or even “gracious, gracious, gracious.” They sing “holy, holy, holy!”

After crossing the Red Sea and witnessing God’s greatness, Moses and the emancipated nation sang, “Lord, who is like you among the gods? Who is like you, glorious in holiness, revered with praises, performing wonders?” (Exodus 15:11).Our God is “glorious in holiness!”

In eternity, we’ll join the celestial choir, singing, “Great and awe-inspiring are your works, Lord God, the Almighty; just and true are your ways, King of the nations. Lord, who will not fear and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All the nations will come and worship before you because your righteous acts have been revealed” (Revelation 15:3–4). “You alone are holy!”

When the newly converted Peter recognized that Jesus was the promised Messiah, “he fell at Jesus’s knees and said, ‘Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord!’ ” (Luke 5:8).

Peter came face-to-face with the reality that Jesus is holy… and he was not!

That’s why we sing, “Holy, holy, holy!” The three persons of the Holy Trinity are holy, and we are not! Yes… He is almighty, all-knowing, and always present! These attributes of God cause us to marvel. But it is His absolute holiness that causes us to fall to our knees in authentic worship.

While “all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6, NKJV), He is perfect in holiness!

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
