HEAVEN’S ARMY

When the Syrian Army surrounded Elisha’s village, God sent Heaven’s army to protect the prophet. Here’s how it happened…

Elisha and his servant were at home in his little cottage, located in the village of Dothan. Early in the morning, the servant looked out the window. I can imagine that the servant had risen early to make the first pot of coffee. Peering out the window, expecting to see the morning dew, he spied an ominous sight!

Syria’s vast army of chariots and horsemen, with their swords and spears glistening in the dawn’s early light, encircled the village. They were innumerable, “a massive army” (2 Kings 6:14), all sent to capture Elisha.

Shocked, the servant cried out to Elisha, “Oh, my master, what are we to do?” (2 Kings 6:15).

Elisha wasn’t being rude, but he didn’t answer his servant’s question. Rather, he bowed his head and prayed a simple prayer. “Lord, please open his eyes and let him see” (2 Kings 6:17).

What did Elisha see that he wished his servant to see also? “The mountain was covered with horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha” (2 Kings 6:17). These weren’t normal horses or chariots made of wood and metal … this was Heaven’s army!

Elisha exclaimed, “Don’t be afraid, for those who are with us outnumber those who are with them” (2 Kings 6:16). Although Syria fielded a “massive army,” it was dwarfed in comparison to God’s army.

Do you feel like the enemy is surrounding you? “Don’t be afraid, for those who are with us outnumber those who are with them!”

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
