Who worshipped the newborn King? Who bowed before Him? Who arrived at the cattle stall in Bethlehem to witness the wonderful Wonder? Not pastors and preachers. Not heads of state, but poor shepherds with the overpowering aroma of sheep and sweat.
After hearing the angel’s announcement, “the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go straight to Bethlehem and see what has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.’ They hurried off and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby who was lying in the manger” (Luke 2:15-16).
Imagine the overwhelmed, stammering and stuttering shepherds. “Hey. We were … uh … we saw angels .. and uh … they said this is where … and, well … is this where the Messiah has been born?”
Having seen King Jesus, the swaddled baby, they bowed in humble reverence, and then “the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had seen and heard” (Luke 2:20).
Good Christian men, rejoice,
With heart and soul and voice.
Give ye heed to what we say:
News! News! Jesus Christ is born today.
Ox and ass before Him bow,
and He is in the manger now.
Christ is born today!
Christ is born today!
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
