The Psalmist sang with joyful thanksgiving because of God’s greatness and grace!

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and bless his name. For the Lord is good, and his faithful love endures forever; his faithfulness, through all generations” (Psalm 100:4–5). “Give thanks!”

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart celebrates, and I give thanks to him with my song” (Psalm 28:7). “Give thanks!”

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praise to your name, Most High, to declare your faithful love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, with a ten-stringed harp and the music of a lyre. For you have made me rejoice, Lord, by what you have done; I will shout for joy because of the works of your hands. How magnificent are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!” (Psalm 92:1–5). “Give thanks!” … “Give thanks!” … “Give thanks!”

In the New Testament, Paul reminded the church to worship in thankfulness.

“Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18). Again… “Give thanks!”

Even though Paul was imprisoned in Rome, he wrote to the churches in Colossae, Philippi, and Ephesus, encouraging them to remain thankful in every circumstance.

“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6–7).

“Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving” (Colossians 4:2).

“Be filled by the Spirit: speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music with your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ”(Ephesians 5:18–20).

Thanksgiving isn’t just about turkey and cranberry sauce… We have so many reasons to be thankful! Let’s worship in thankfulness.

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
