Listen to the repeated refrain of the Psalmists…
“I cry aloud to the Lord, and he answers me” (Psalm 3:4).
“I called to the Lord in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears” (Psalm 18:6).
“Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you healed me” (Psalm 30:2).
“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry for help” (Psalm 34:15).
“I waited patiently for the Lord, and he turned to me and heard my cry for help” (Psalm 40:1).
“Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice” (Psalm 55:17, NKJV).
“Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I” (Psalm 61:1–2, NKJV).
The Psalmist “cried to the Lord,” fervently believing that God would hear him and come to his aid. Over-and-over, the Psalmist “cried out” faithfully.
At Gethsemane, Jesus “fell facedown and prayed, ‘My Father…’ ” (Matthew 26:39). “Being in anguish, he prayed more fervently, and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground” (Luke 22:44). Jesus cried out to His Faithful Father!
So, I ask you, when’s that last time you “cried out to the Lord”? Are our prayers emotionless? Ho-hum! Ho-hum! Blah, blah, blah… or, are your prayers passionate? urgent? faithful? persistent? desperate?
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
