CHOOSE LIFE

Today is the day of decision. We stand at the “Y” in the road and must decide! This way or that way? Left or right? Right or wrong? God’s way or my way?

As Israel stood at the “Y”, with his final breath Moses called God’s people to choose!

“See, today I have set before you life and prosperity, death and adversity. For I am commanding you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, statutes, and ordinances, so that you may live and multiply, and the Lord your God may bless you in the land you are entering to possess. But if your heart turns away and you do not listen and you are led astray to bow in worship to other gods and serve them, I tell you today that you will certainly perish and will not prolong your days in the land you are entering to possess across the Jordan. I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live!” (Deuteronomy 30:15-19).

It is that simple! If we are “led astray to bow in worship to other gods and serve them … we will certainly perish!” But if we choose to “love the Lord our God… and walk in his ways” then we are granted life!

A generation later, after the Canaanite conquest was completed, Joshua again called the people to recognize the “Y.” “Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:14–15, ESV).

Everyone must choose between a blood-bought salvation and eternal damnation. “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved… For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:9,13). Decide!

And today, as every other day, we stand at the “Y.” We must decide! This way or that way? Left or right? Right or wrong? God’s way or my way?

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
