John 19:30
“Crucify Him! Crucify Him!”
The crowd’s foul cry hung in the air as the Innocent One was paraded through the streets of Jerusalem to the place called Golgotha. Wearing only a crown of thorns, the beaten and bloodied King of kings was crucified, nailed to the “Old Rugged Cross.”
For six horrifying hours, as He struggled for every breath, Jesus was publicly displayed, dishonored and disgraced.
During those six hours, Jesus made provision for Mary, His beloved mother. “He said to his mother, ‘Woman, here is your son.’ Then he said to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother’ ” (John 19:26–27).
He’d also made provision for the guilty criminal who had turned to Him in child-like faith.
“Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43).
Then, with Christ’s final breath, Jesus announced, “It is finished” (John 19:30). In the original language, He spoke just one word: “Tetelestai.”
Tetelestai! When the first-century family paid-off the mortgage, “tetelestai” was stamped across the loan document. The loan was paid in full! Tetelestai… it is finished!
Jesus made provision for us as He proclaimed, “Tetelestai!” “The victory is won!” “Mission accomplished!” “The work of redemption is complete!” He’d paid the ransom, the full price to purchase our pardon! “It is finished!”
Why is John 19:30 a powerful and important Bible-Bullet?
When Satan says, “You’re not doing enough!” … then quote the Resurrected Redeemer! “It is finished!” When the Tempter whispers, “You’re not good enough!” “You don’t deserve it!” … declare, “It is finished!” “Paid in full!” “The victory is won!” “Tetelestai!”
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
