Genesis 17:1
When I introduce myself, I might say something like … “Hi. I’m the Pastor of South Georgia Baptist Church.” Or, “Hello. I’m your neighbor… I live in the house down the street.”
When God introduced Himself, He said, “I am God Almighty” (Genesis 17:1). In the original language, “El Shaddai.”God had promised Abraham that he would have many children and that his descendants would become a numberless nation (Genesis 12:2). But Abraham was ninety-nine and Sarah was eighty-nine, and they were childless. When Abraham was facing the impossible, God said, “I am God Almighty.”
Through unimaginable troubles and trials, Job learned to trust God Almighty. “I know that you can do anything and no plan of yours can be thwarted” (Job 42:2).
Jeremiah, the weeping prophet, cried out, “Oh, Lord God! You yourself made the heavens and earth by your great power and with your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for you!” (Jeremiah 32:17).
Facing the horrors of death by crucifixion, the sinless Jesus withdrew to the quiet garden to pray. “Abba, Father! All things are possible for you” (Mark 14:36). Jesus had always known that “what is impossible with man is possible with God” (Luke 18:27).
When the last chapter of earth’s history is closed, we’ll join our voices with a million angels and sing, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” (Revelation 19:6, NKJV).
He “can do anything” … “Nothing is too difficult” … “All things are possible” … He is “God Almighty!”
Abraham and Sarah were far past their child-bearing years. To have a child was an utter impossibility. There was no way… but God appeared and introduced Himself as “God Almighty.”
When there is no way, God can make a way! He is El Shaddai. We can trust Him.
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
