Did he wallow in dark depths of despair? Guilty until proven innocent, shackled to a Roman soldier, awaiting trial before Caesar where the death penalty was a very real possibility, did he curse? Did he cry?
Neither.
Instead, he wrote a letter to friends in Philippi.
“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).
I’ve never been chained to a Roman guard, but I’ve been immobilized by fear, grief, anxiety and worry. Have you?
The next time trouble comes knocking, don’t worry, but pray. “Through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Instead of carrying life’s heaviest burdens on your feeble and frail shoulders, lay those burdens at the feet of Jesus. Pray! Give thanks! Talk to the Gracious Father!
The Inspired Word of God makes us a promise! If we’ll faithfully and hopefully call on Jesus, “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds.”
Bible Bullets… “Don’t worry about anything.” Keep God’s promise close to your heart. Memorize it. Meditate on it. Have it ready when you might be tempted to curse or cry.
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
