Hebrews 4:12
Why should we memorize Scripture?
Number one … God commanded His children to memorize and meditate upon His Word.
Number two … The Bible is God’s Word! It’s the most important and power-packed document in history … we should learn it, love it, and live by it!
I try to read a little bit of the news every morning. I want to know what’s going on! This morning, I was pleased to read about the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. I also read about President Trump’s meeting with our NATO allies. I read the news because it is relevant, it’s important. (I try to limit my news-intake… it can become discouraging and depressing.)
Vastly more important than today’s headlines are the words recorded in Scripture. The Bible is God’s Word. It is His love letter to His children … it is the instruction manual for life … it contains truth, wisdom, hope, promise! The Bible reveals God’s love, His majesty, His plan for today, tomorrow, and eternity.
“The word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
I like the way the New Living Translation says it… “The word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires” (Hebrews 4:12, NLT).
Because it is God’s revelation and message, let’s learn it, love it, and live by it!
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
