WILL HEAVEN BE BORING?

In Heaven, are we going to stand around singing kumbaya? How many verses are there?

If that’s all there is to Paradise, I’m not too excited. Are you? Fortunately, that’s not all there is…

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1), and then with “dust from the ground” (Genesis 2:7) “God created man in his own image” (Genesis 1:27). “The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it” (Genesis 2:15), saying, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it” (Genesis 1:28)

God, who is artistic, creative, intelligent, industrious, and passionate, created man in His “own image” and said, “get busy!” “Work it and watch over it!” Obediently, they must have explored the boundless beauty of the Garden, discovering, learning, and growing.

And so it will be in Heaven.

“God, who is rich in mercy … raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might display the immeasurable riches of his grace through his kindness to us in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:4–7). In the eternal future, Heaven’s inhabitants will explore and continually discover “the immeasurable riches of his grace.”

In this world, we are commanded to “walk worthy of the Lord … bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:10). In the New World, won’t we continue serving, growing, discovering, and learning?

In Jesus’ parable concerning the talents, the Master rewarded the faithful servant saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy” (Matthew 25:21, 23). In Heaven, we will be rewarded with new and exciting opportunities to serve.

Unimaginable adventures await us…

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
