THE VEIL

![]() God gave Moses the instructions: “You are to make a curtain of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen with a design of cherubim worked into it … so the curtain will make a separation for you between the holy place and the most holy place. Put the mercy seat on the ark of the testimony in the most holy place” (Exodus 26:31–34).
The Veil was a barrier. A locked door. No one could enter the Holy of Holies because the way was barred.
Only on the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, was a man invited to enter… and only the High Priest (Leviticus 16).
Tradition suggests that the High Priest tied a rope around one leg. If God struck him dead, then his buddies could pull out his body, because nobody was going past the Veil to retrieve it.
The Veil no longer stands. It was torn. The way is opened.
With Jesus’ final breath, “the curtain of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom, the earth quaked, and the rocks were split” (Matthew 27:51).
Today, our Great High Priest, Jesus, invites us to “approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
The way is no longer barred. The door isn’t locked, but it stands wide open, inviting us to enter. Hear Him call… “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV). |
