THE TRANSFIGURATION

More than thirty years after Jesus had ascended to Heaven, Peter wrote his two epistles. In the second letter, he recorded this beloved memory: “We were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased!’ We ourselves heard this voice when it came from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain” (2 Peter 1:16–18). The aging Apostle recalled standing on the Mount of Transfiguration with the Lord Jesus.
Peter was an “eyewitnesses of his majesty!” He watched in speechless awe and amazement as Jesus was transformed… transfigured. “He was transfigured in front of them, and his clothes became dazzling—extremely white as no launderer on earth could whiten them” (Mark 9:2-3). “His face shone like the sun; his clothes became as white as the light” (Matthew 17:2). “The appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white” (Luke 9:29).
On the mountain, Peter heard the voice of God roar like thunder, the voice of the “Majestic Glory!” saying, “This is my Son, the Chosen One!” (Luke 9:35), “my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased. Listen to him!” (Matthew 17:5).
Someday everyone will see the glorified Jesus, and “every knee will bow—in heaven and on earth and under the earth—and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10–11).
And someday we’ll hear the voice of God the Father. Either He’ll thunder, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”(Matthew 25:21), or “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” (Matthew 7:23, NKJV).
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
