SOVEREIGN OVER NATIONS - 3

I might write a letter that starts something like this...

Dear Mr. Biden, advocating for a woman’s right to murder a baby is wrong. Or...

Dear Mr. Putin, attacking, bombing, and killing your neighbors is wrong. Or...

Dear Mr. Xi Jinping, imprisoning and murdering church leaders in China is wrong.

I might continue... God won’t stand for it! You may think that you’re safe and secure, with multi-trillion-dollar economies and nuclear weaponry, but you’re not! God could squish you like a bug! Know this, Mr. President! When God isn’t allowed to rule, He overrules!

Consider this true story found within the pages of Holy Scripture!

“Jericho was strongly fortified because of the Israelites—no one leaving or entering” (Joshua 6:1). The city was guarded and garrisoned, and its citizens believed the great walls were impervious to intruders. They were safe and secure! Right?

The Lord said to Joshua, ‘Look, I have handed Jericho, its king, and its best soldiers over to you’ ” (Joshua 6:2). God had promised His chosen people, “understand that today the Lord your God will cross over ahead of you as a consuming fire; he will devastate and subdue them before you. You will drive them out and destroy them swiftly, as the Lord has told you... the Lord will drive out these nations before you because of their wickedness” (Deuteronomy 9:3–4). Read that last phrase again... “because of their wickedness!”

The Commander of the Lord’s Army (Joshua 5:15), a strategic genius, directed Joshua and His troops. “March around the city,” He commanded, “once each day, for six days. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times.” And so it was! “After the seventh time, the priests blew the rams’ horns, and Joshua said to the troops, ‘Shout! For the Lord has given you the city’ ” (Joshua 6:16).

Genius or crazy? When the trumpets sounded and the people shouted, the walls crumbled! “They completely destroyed everything in the city with the sword—every man and woman, both young and old, and every ox, sheep, and donkey” (Joshua 6:21).

Oh, Mr. President, repent! Turn to God. Throw yourself on His marvelous mercies! “May the name of God be praised forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to him. He changes the times and seasons; he removes kings and establishes kings” (Daniel 2:20–21).

Please sir, trust the Lord! “Do not test the Lord!” (Deuteronomy 6:16).

The Omnipotent God, the One who created heaven and earth, the God who destroyed Jericho, the God who is sovereign over every nation and leader, asks, “Look, I am the Lord, the God over every creature. Is anything too difficult for me?” (Jeremiah 32:27).
