Biblical peace is more than an absence of conflict and hostility. It’s a sense of harmony, of safety and security, of wholeness and completeness.
“Peace” (“shalom” in Hebrew) was a common greeting. To express “shalom” as a greeting was more than a flippant “howdy.” To say, “shalom” was to wish genuine friendship, happiness, and wholeness for another.
Do you have peace? Do you know “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding” (Philippians 4:7). If you are not living under the umbrella of God’s peace, let me tell you the key. Only those who “have been justified by faith” can enjoy “peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1).
Jesus is the “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). He is the antidote for anxiety. He calms the storm with a simple command, “Peace! Be still!” (Mark 4:39, ESV). He chases away dread and fear by proclaiming, “Peace, I give to you!” (John 14:27). His promised presence provides lasting peace. “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace… Be courageous! I have conquered the world” (John 16:33).
His incomprehensible peace transcends our circumstances, overcoming the gravest diagnosis and the most dreadful conditions. We can know peace even in the midst of the harshest storms.
So, have a great day today! Enjoy the peace that is only possible in and through a living relationship with the Prince of Peace.
Know Jesus… know peace. No Jesus… no peace.
Shalom!
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
