NOAH’S ARK

Noah’s ark is a type of Christ.

First, let’s consider the events leading up to the flood. The sixth chapter of Genesis opens with a description of what God saw when He gazed upon His creation. “The Lord saw that human wickedness was widespread on the earth and that every inclination of the human mind was nothing but evil all the time… The earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with wickedness” (Genesis 6:5-6, 11). Just chapters before, “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good indeed” (Genesis 1:31). Due to sin, creation was a mess. It was wrecked, ruined, polluted, and shameful!

“Then the Lord said, ‘I will wipe mankind, whom I created, off the face of the earth, together with the animals, creatures that crawl, and birds of the sky—for I regret that I made them’ ” (Genesis 6:7). Sin bring judgment.

“Noah, however, found favor with the Lord” (Genesis 6:8). With grace and mercy, God came to the rescue by inviting Noah to build a great boat, an ark “450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high” (Genesis 6:15).

The ark was man’s only hope of salvation… just like Jesus is today!

There was only one door into the ark (Genesis 6:16) … just as Jesus is the only door into a saving relationship with the Heavenly Father (John 10:9).

The ark was big enough for all to be saved, but only those who entered by faith were saved… just as salvation today is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus alone (Ephesians 2:8-9).

God invited Noah to enter (Genesis 7:1) … just as He invites us today.

Those who entered the ark could be certain of their safety and security (Genesis 7:16) … just as those who trust in Jesus today can be certain of eternal life and eternal security (John 3:16).

The ark points to Jesus! Hallelujah.

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
