Israel, at the Red Sea

Roadblocks!

The Israelites were free. Egypt was in the rearview mirror. So was their slavery, sadness and shame. They were on their way to the land flowing with milk and honey, when ... they came face-to-face with a roadblock ... the Red Sea.

Wasn’t that right where God wanted them? Yes, God led them to that spot. (Exodus 14:2) God wanted them to see that no obstacle is too big for God. Sometimes the Almighty seems to slow us down (just like today) to show us what can happen when we place our faith in a faithful God.

They couldn’t go back. “The Egyptians — all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots, his horsemen, and his army — chased after them.” (Exodus 14:9, CSB)

And they couldn’t go forward. There was no way! They were stuck between a rock and a hard place!

“The Israelites were terrified and cried out to the Lord for help!” (Exodus 14:10, CSB)

God heard! “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and see the LORD’s salvation.” (Exodus 14:13, CSB)

“Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. The Lord drove the sea back with a powerful east wind all that night and turned the sea into dry land. So the waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with the waters like a wall to them on their right and their left.” (Exodus 14:21-22, CSB)

The entry in the Hall of Faith reads, “By faith the people crossed the Red Sea as on dry land.” (Hebrews 11:29, ESV)

Have you ever come to the Red Sea? You had your journey all mapped out! Then ... glitches and hitches! Roadblocks.

The answer to life’s obstacles is faith, rightly place in a righteous and omnipotent God. “Stand firm” and let God be God!

Is it possible that God has us right where He wants us? The coronavirus and the Red Sea aren’t so different. They are impossible, insurmountable, and unconquerable! As we face our inability, is God waiting for us to acknowledge His ability?

As we come to the barriers, barricades and blockades of life, remember the faithful God of the Israelites. Almighty! All-knowing! Always present! He’s waiting to hear our faith-filled cry!
