The best part of going on vacation isn’t the anticipation of new adventures, the travel, or even the sights and sounds of distant places. The best part of going away is coming home.
Home is where we belong. It’s where we’re loved, and where we share our love with others. It’s where we feel comfortable, where we’re safe, where we can be ourselves without fear of other’s appraising eyes. Home! Sweet home!
Earth is not our home. This life is but a temporary pit-stop in the journey to our eternal home. Heaven is our home.
“Our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly wait for a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will transform the body of our humble condition into the likeness of his glorious body, by the power that enables him to subject everything to himself” (Philippians 3:20–21).
We’re welcome in our native country. We speak the language. We enjoy the comforts and safety afforded citizens.
Best of all, our Father and His family are at home in Heaven (Matthew 6:1, 9) and He has graciously prepared a room for us under His roof (John 14:2-3). At home, our Father will care for us and provide for every need.
We can be grateful for our Father and for the promises of home, “an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven” (1 Peter 1:3–4).
Home! Sweet home! It’s just around the bend…
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
