HE REACHED OUT AND TOOK IT

In an era where iron tools were rare and valuable, the lumberjack was understandably distraught that he’d lost his ax.

He’s been chopping down trees, preparing to build a new home, when “the iron ax head fell into the water” (2 Kings 6:5). Maybe he immediately dove into the deep waters of the Jordan River… maybe. If so, the irreplaceable iron ax head was lost in the murky waters, or it was too deep for him to reach.

Bent over, with his hands on his knees, he stared into the water, and cried out to Elisha

“Oh, my master, it was borrowed!” (2 Kings 6:5). He was devastated.

God cares about iron ax heads.

“The man of God cut a piece of wood, threw it there, and made the iron float. Then he said, ‘Pick it up.’ So he reached out and took it” (2 Kings 6:6-7).

It was a miracle. Iron doesn’t float! But nothing is too hard for God.

Imagine this. Standing on the banks of the Jordan, Elisha stands with the ax in his outstretched hands. “Here! It’s yours. All you have to do is reach out and take it.”

That’s what Jesus said to Nicodemus… and to each of us. “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16, NKJV).

Salvation is a free gift. All you have to do is reach out and take it.

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
