“EVERY SPIRITUAL BLESSING”

“Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3).

Some “spiritual blessings” … no!

Many “spiritual blessings” … no!

“Every spiritual blessing!” … Hallelujah!

Allow me to put that sentence in my own words. “All praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has already freely gifted us with every spiritual advantage, assistance, and allowance in the heavens…”

But what are these spiritual blessings? Are they health, wealth, and prosperity? No! The New Testament doesn’t promise luxuries and comforts in this lifetime.

First and foremost, these blessings include our “redemption” (Ephesians 1:7) though the sacrifice of His innocent blood, and being made “holy and blameless … before Him” (Ephesians 1:4)

These blessings also include a mysterious and miraculous union with Christ. Paul promises that we are “in Christ” or “in Him” (Ephesians 1:3, 4 ,6 ,7 , 9, 10, 11, 12, 13). We are also blessed with an irrevocable “inheritance” (Ephesians 1:11, 14) as adopted sons and daughters (Ephesians 1:5) and the unveiling of His perfect plan and purpose (Ephesians 1:9-10).

Peter’s doxology seems to mirror Paul’s. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:3–4).

Because these blessings and benefits are “imperishable, undefiled, and unfading,” and because they have already been bestowed on us (Ephesians 1:3), we needn’t ask for them. Rather, we should appropriate them by faith. We’re blessed by the Best … we should live like it!

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
