How do you start your prayers? “Dear Heavenly Father…” or maybe “Lord, Jesus…” or “God in Heaven…”
Paul used a wide array of descriptive titles and names as he addressed the Creator.
Paul spoke to “the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 15:6), “the God who gives endurance and encouragement” (Romans 15:5), “the God of hope” (Romans 15:13) and “the God of peace” (Romans 15:33). He also addressed “the eternal God” and “the only wise God” (Romans 16:26-27).
As the old Apostle wrote to Timothy, his young protégé, it seems that Paul turned his eyes heavenward. As he continued to write, he recorded his prayer. “Excuse me Timothy, as I take a moment to speak to the Father … Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen” (1 Timothy 1:17). The English Standard Version translates it this way: “To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen” (1 Timothy 1:17, ESV).
The Old Testament prophet, Daniel, caught a glimpse of the “Ancient of Days” (Daniel 7:9, 13, 22) but Paul had an intimate relationship with the “King of the ages” … “the King eternal, immortal, invisible.”
“Excuse me as I take a moment to speak to the Father … Holy Father, King of kings, Christ Jesus our Savior, and Ever-present, indwelling Spirit, thank You for Your Word and for the record of Paul’s insight and encouragement. Thank you, Lord!”
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
