Isaiah 40:31

Isaiah was a prophet in Judah, circa 700 BC. During his lifetime, Judah witnessed the defeat and destruction of their northern neighbors as Assyria ransacked Samaria and carried the Ten Tribes into bondage. Isaiah, God’s faithful prophet, pled with Judah to be obedient to God, and promised God’s protection if His people would return to God and remain faithful.

The Book of Isaiah has many passages that have been stitched onto pillows and printed on t-shirts. Certainly, there is a goldmine of passages that should be highlighted in our Bibles and indelibly etched into our memories.

What is your favorite? Is it the sixth chapter where Isaiah is miraculously transported into the God’s throne room and hears the angels singing, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Armies” (Isaiah 6:3)? Or is your favorite found in chapter seven where the Coming King is promised: “The virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14), or in chapter nine where the Messiah is called “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6)?

Let me share with you five passages we should strive to memorize. Today, let’s consider this: “He gives strength to the faint and strengthens the powerless. Youths may become faint and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:29–31).

Look at the first sentence… “He gives strength to the faint and strengthens the powerless!”

Is that you? I often feel “faint” and “powerless” … at the end of my ability and strength.

And what is God’s promise? “Those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength!” To the weak and weary, to those who trust Him, God promises renewal and restoration. He promises the supernatural strength to “soar” above earth’s troubles, trials, and temptations.

“Those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
