The New Testament proclaims, “Our citizenship is in heaven” where “He will transform the body of our humble condition into the likeness of his glorious body” (Philippians 3:20–21). In Heaven, we’ll have a body much like the resurrected, glorified body of Jesus.
After His crucifixion and resurrection, Jesus asked His disciples, “ ‘Do you have anything here to eat?’ So they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and he took it and ate in their presence” (Luke 24:41–43). Jesus ate… so, in Heaven, I expect that we’ll eat.
Isaiah agreed. “On this mountain, the Lord of Armies will prepare for all the peoples a feast of choice meat, a feast with aged wine, prime cuts of choice meat, fine vintage wine. On this mountain he will swallow up the burial shroud … he has swallowed up death once and for all, the Lord God will wipe away the tears from every face…” (Isaiah 25:6–8).
Jesus was looking forward to it. “I tell you that many will come from east and west to share the banquet with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 8:11). He promised His disciples, “you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom” (Luke 22:30), and Jesus said, “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to summon those invited to the banquet … ‘See, I’ve prepared my dinner; my oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet’ ” (Matthew 22:1–4).
John caught a glimpse of a glorious banquet. “A voice came from the throne, saying, Praise our God, all his servants, and the ones who fear him, both small and great! Then I heard something like the voice of a vast multitude, like the sound of cascading waters, and like the rumbling of loud thunder, saying, Hallelujah, because our Lord God, the Almighty, reigns! Let us be glad, rejoice, and give him glory, because the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his bride has prepared herself. She was given fine linen to wear, bright and pure. For the fine linen represents the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, “Write: Blessed are those invited to the marriage feast of the Lamb!” (Revelation 19:5-9).
I can almost hear the chiming of the dinner bell… “Dinner’s ready… Come and get it…”
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
