THE MODEL PRAYER - 2

Jesus instructed us to “pray like this: Our Father in heaven, your name be honored as holy”(Matthew 6:9, CSB).

“Father!” Jesus used the Greek word pater which is equivalent to the Aramaic word “Abba” (Mark 14:36, Romans 8:15). These are intimate and honorable terms that an adult son would use in reference to his father, his dad.

His name is “highly exalted ... a name that is above every name!” (Philippians 2:9–10, CSB) for “there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12, CSB).

We are invited to “approach the throne of grace with boldness” (Hebrews 4:16, CSB), confidently and intimately addressing our Father, the “King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God!” (1 Timothy 1:17, CSB), the “Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Colossians 1:3, CSB), the “Father of the fatherless” (Psalm 68:5), “Our Father in heaven” (Matthew 6:9, CSB).

He is the “God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the Awesome God” (Deuteronomy 10:17, ESV), the “Awe-inspiring One” (Psalm 76:11, CSB).

He is “God!” (Genesis 1:1, CSB), “the Only True God” (John 17:3, CSB), the “Living God” (Psalm 84:2, CSB), “God Almighty” (Genesis 48:3, CSB), “God Most High”(Genesis 14:18, CSB), “God My Savior” (Luke 1:47), the “God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3, CSB), the “God of hope” (Romans 15:13, CSB), the “God of peace” (1 Thessalonians 5:23, CSB), the “God of my righteousness” (Psalm 4:1, ESV), “God our Father” (Romans 1:7, CSB) and “God with us” (Matthew 1:23, ESV).

We can “cast all our anxieties” (1 Peter 5:7, ESV) on the “Protector” (Psalm 121:3, CSB), “Strong Refuge” (Psalm 71:7, CSB), “Strong Tower” (Psalm 61:3, CSB), “Shelter” (Psalm 119:114, CSB), and the “Deliverer” (Romans 11:26, CSB). “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock where I seek refuge. My shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold, my refuge, and my Savior” (2 Samuel 22:2–3, CSB). “He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will never be shaken” (Psalm 62:2, CSB).

He is “Lord of the Sabbath” (Matthew 12:8, CSB), “Lord of the harvest” (Matthew 9:38, CSB), “Lord of Heaven and Earth” (Matthew 11:25, CSB), “Lord of glory” (I Corinthians 2:8, CSB), “Lord and Master” (John 13:13, KJV), “Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (II Peter 2:20, CSB), “Lord of all” (Leviticus 27:28, NKJV), “Lord God, the Almighty” (Revelation 19:6, CSB).

He is our “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6 (CSB), the “Helper” (John 14:16, ESV), “Counselor” (John 14:16, CSB), and “Comforter”(John 14:16, KJV). He is the “Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world” (John 1:29, CSB), the “Good Shepherd” who lays down His life for His sheep (John 10:14-15, CSB), a “friend of ... sinners” (Matthew 11:19, CSB), “the gift of God” (John 4:10, CSB), our “Redeemer” (Isaiah 54:5, CSB) and our “Savior” (Isaiah 45:21, CSB).

“Whenever you pray, say, ‘Father, your name be honored as holy’ ” (Luke 11:2, CSB).
