Our children are thrilled by the most unlikely things. A six-count chicken nugget kids meal from Chick-fil-A. A freshly opened pack of sidewalk chalk. Roly polies. Bubble wrap. New pajamas. I don’t mean just happy. I mean shrieking-with-joy elated. It just doesn’t take much around here, people. Am I that excited about anything? Yet, the Bible teaches that I truly have something to be thrilled about: “Though you do not now see Him (Jesus), you believe in Him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory” (I Peter 1:8b). Jesus should thrill me! The Gospel of Jesus is nothing less than shrieking-with-joy Good News for me. Once dead, now fully alive! Once guilty, now forever pardoned! Once alone, now found and kept! Once enslaved by sin, now free! Once empty, now filled with purpose! The thrilling Gospel every day should charge me up and carry me through and send me out with joy. Joy inexpressible and filled with glory! I should at least be as thrilled about it as my kids are about chicken nuggets, right? We have a thrilling Gospel!
