SGBC Family Blog is a new weekly blog for parents and families written by Family Pastor Brad Newman and his wife, Sarah. Look for a new post every Tuesday morning!
We haven’t slept through the night since our six-month-old was born — and most days it feels like we probably never will again.
We regularly have conversations about the bodily functions of toddlers.
On any given day, you could find enough Fruit Loops on our living room floor to be tomorrow’s breakfast.
A trip to the grocery store by ourselves qualifies as a hot date.
We’re parents. Our lives are filled up with our children — with loving them and reading them stories and filling their juice cups and answering their questions and putting bandaids on their imaginary injuries.
And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
As much as our lives are defined and fulfilled by our children — and all their messes and joys — we want our family to most of all be defined by Jesus and His Gospel.
We want to leverage our home and family to obey God's command to His people in Deuteronomy 6:4-9. We want to be compelled to rearrange everything — every move and thought and word — because we are centered on and consumed by the Good News.
And we're sure we're not the only ones!
So could we do this parenting thing together? Could we share our hearts and struggles? And above all, could we rejoice in the promise that we have a Father who knows us best and loves us most?
Our hope is that every week this blog will equip and encourage families like ours as we seek Jesus together.
